Good News for Tiger Lovers - Two more tiger cubs spotted in Sariska

Everyone has heard of Machli the famous tigress of Ranthambore National Park. Machli has been instrumental in increasing the tiger population immensely at the Park. Her off-springs are just as gifted and reproductive as she was in her days of youth. One of her daughters, ST-2 who was relocated to Sariska tiger Reserve in 2008, has settled well in those surroundings. 

 Last weekend the magnificent tigress was caught on camera, hunting for prey with two newly born cubs of hers. This is indeed news of joy and jubilation for animal lovers in India and abroad. The cubs seemed to be accompanying the mother and learning the ways of surviving in the jungle world.

This happens to be the second litter of ST-2 who has been a proud mother of 2 female cubs in her first litter. With this fresh sighting, the count of tigers has gone up to 11 at Sariska. Though it is not certain if there would be more cubs or not. That time will tell. All eyes are trained on the cameras fitted in the Tiger Reserve to catch any further glimpse of this wonderful animal and her cute and adorable cubs.

The female cubs from ST-2’s first litter are also blossoming into young tigresses and it would be really superb to get the news of their litters as well.

Dancing in the Rain – A weekend in Tiger Territory

  We had heard a lot about Ranthambore National Park from our friends John and Doe who had visited the park last year during their vacations. They were both so ecstatic about their jungle adventure that it started our minds rolling. The thought of going on a Jungle Safari adventure was an instant hit with my group of friends. So we started making plans and arrangements for the same.
  
  
• We chanced upon www.tigeroath.com and booked a jeep safari for 4 people with them. But we just didn’t want to visit the park and move back. We wanted to see more of the place and its surrounding areas so we booked 2 rooms at a jungle lodge there in Ranthambore.
•  The temperature was soaring high and though it was monsoon time, the rain gods seemed too far away to give a pleasant shower. On our first day we set out early in the morning to the park in our jeep with driver and guide. It was a wonderful day with the different bird and animal sounds that seemed to envelope the entire atmosphere. When all of a sudden, there was a sudden burst of monkeys chattering loudly and birds flying off from their respective perches. The driver brought the jeep to a halt and motioned us to be quiet as we all had started quizzing the guide on what this all meant. 
  
  
  
  
  
  Lo!! Behold!!! There near the lake could be seen the King of the Jungle – the Tiger himself. Ooh! What a beauty he was, as he lapped up water at the lake’s edge. No sooner that he had appeared, he cantered off into the deep jungle foliage. Well our tour ended for the day with no further sign of the feline beast.

  The next day we had plans to go for bird watching and exploring the jungle sights for other wildlife. We were well rewarded with sights of leopards, deer, bears and a lively band of long-tailed monkeys called langurs and a bevy of colorful birds. 
  
  Sunday was the best day of our stay because it rained heavily and we had loads of fun dancing in the rain. It added a zing to one of our most memorable holidays – a weekend tour  in Tiger territory – Ranthambore National Park.

We all have heard, read and seen a tiger in pictures, on the TV, on the net or in a zoo or circus. But how many of us have actually seen a real tiger in his own environment, running carefree and free. Very few must have and even fewer people might know after the personality, traits and facts about the tiger. Given below are some of the interesting things related to this admirable animal.

A tiger is normally more active during evening to early morning as it has the ability to see 10 times more in the dark as compared to normal human vision.

• A tiger will normally hunt for prey on its own, very rarely in a pack. Though he may hunt alone, he is not a greedy guy, he is ready to share with other tigers or tigresses and wait for his turn to come.
• The tiger normally uses the surprise element for hunting; it can patiently wait in the bush and creep forward towards its prey soundlessly due to its soft paws.
• Tigers do not consider humans as prey unless it perceives the human as a threat to its cubs or in case of the animal being old and not that agile to run after faster moving prey.
  
• The tiger prefers solitude and is not much of a family type of guy. During the mating season alone, can you see a tiger with the tigress or a tigress with her cubs.
